6.4 GHz Update The 6.4 GHz band now has two overlaying band plans: four traditional 25 MHz channels shown above, and twelve 8 MHz channels. This is a shared services band. NYPD now operates helicopters undera Public Safety license in this band. Until the equipment of the present licensees can be upgraded, NYPD will operate on 8 MHz channel 4 (at the lower edge of 25 MHz channel 2) on weekdays. Weekend use will be coordinated between NYPD and NY1 News (DBS) on weekends on 25 MHz channel 1 or 3. The intention is to eventually establish a permanent 8 MHz home channel for NYPD.
